Japanese Imari charger of large size, Arita, c. 1700, Genroku Period.

About the Item

A large Japanese Imari deep charger, Arita, c. 1700, Genroku Period. Hand painted to the centre, with a large vase containing a profusion of flowers, upon a terrace. The broad border with three shaped panels of flowering plants in shades of red, and gilt, against an underglaze blue ground of scrolling foliage, heightened with iron red and gilt flower heads. Three sprigs of flowering plants adorn the reverse, around the foot rim, which in turn, encloses randomly placed spur marks, within an underglaze blue circle. Diameter – 55 cm, 21 3/4”. Height – 9.5 cm, 3 3/4”. Condition – Excellent original condition. No damage. No restoration.
