Jun Isezaki Signed Japanese Bizen Yaki Ware Pottery Large Vase Signed Sealed Box

About the Item

A wonderfully made large Bizen Yaki Ware vase by famed Japanese Bizen pottery master artist Jun (Jyun) Isezaki (born 1936) who was designated a Japanese Living National Treasure in 2004. The piece has a beautiful, exquisite form with a rich Bizen kiln fired color. Bizen Yaki is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from Bizen province, presently a part of Okayama prefecture. It is known for its ironlike hardness due to high temperature firing; its earthen-like, reddish-brown color; absence of glaze, although it may contain traces of unpredictable natural molten ash glaze markings resulting from wood-burning kiln firing (Isezaki uses a technique called''Hidasuki" (fire markings) to add surface decoration. This happens completely by chance in the kiln). Bizen ware is considered one of the Six Ancient Japanese Kilns (along with Echizen ware, Seto ware, Tamba (Tanba) ware, Tokaname ware, and Shigaraki ware). The vase is signed by Isezaki on the base with his incised mark and also comes with the artist signed (in black ink) and sealed (in red) tomobako wood box. Isezaki's works have been exhibited and collected by a number of major international museums including: Bizen Pottery Museum, Bizen, Okayama, Japan British Museum, London, UK Brooklyn Museum, NY Canterbury Museum New Zealand Higashihiroshima City Museum of Art, Hiroshima, Japan Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum, Kasama, Ibaraki, Japan Kano Museum of Art, Yasugi City, Japan Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, Kyoto, Japan Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY Miho Museum, Shigaraki, Shiga, Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tokyo, Japan Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN Musée Cernuschi, Paris, France Musée de Sèvres Sèvres, France Musée Tomo, Tokyo, Japan Museum of Ceramic Art, Hyogo, Japan Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Japan National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Japan Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan Phoenix Art Museum, AZ Portland Art Museum, OR Samuel P. Kinpei Nakamura Signed Japanese Abstract Pottery Vase With Original Sealed Box
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully designed and crafted abstract Japanese studio pottery vase/sculpture by renowned potter Kinpei (Kimpei) Nakamura (1935- ). Kinpei Nakamura was born in the town of Kanazawa, A chance encounter with pottery master Kitaôji Rosanjin at a young age influenced him greatly and he began his artistic pottery career in Japan during the 1960s. Early on, he was heavily influenced by 20th Century Western abstract painting and sculpture as well as Jomon-style ceramics and modernist sculpture (as clearly seen in this piece). His experiments with forms and textures were considered quite radical at the time. He would later travel to the united States to further his studies (he was inspired by American potters such as Peter Voulkos) and career. Today his works can be found in major ceramic art collections and museums worldwide. The work is signed by Nakamura on the base and comes with the original signed and sealed box...

An exquisite, beautifully crafted, and designed gourd vase by master Japanese potter Shoji Hamada, which features a fine example of his famed rich Kaki or persimmon glaze. Hamada named this vase Kaki-Yu-Kabin (flower vase with Kakiyu glaze). A very rare form. One Japanese ceramic dealer whom we know said he had only seen one or two other examples like this by Hamada before. This work is sure to shine in any Japanese pottery/art collection or setting. A beautiful, perfectly shaped and balanced antique Bizen ware shibui sake bottle (tokkuri) vase by renowned Japanese master potter/artist Kaneshige Toyo (1896-1967) featuring a unique natural, wonderfully textured organic forming ash glaze. Bizen Ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from the Bizen province, presently a part of the Okayama prefecture. It is considered one of the Six Ancient Japanese Kilns (along with Echizen ware, Seto ware, Shigaraki ware, Tamba ware, and Tokoname ware). The piece is signed/ sealed on the base with one of Kaneshige's traditional incised marks. A rather striking and engaging work. One of the best Kaneshige works we have come across.
