Large fruit Bowl Cup Basin on pedestal blue white porcelain - Qing Style - China

About the Item

Very beautiful large white-blue porcelain basin or fruit bowl or cup. The large white bowl is decorated with a blue floral-themed composition, including foliage, lotus flowers and magnolias and an Asian sign. The belly flares towards the edge. The interior is also decorated in blue tones with classic stripes and geometric patterns on the edge and a circle of different stripes and central pattern on the bottom. The same frieze adorns the foot of the cup. A stylized Shou character is represented on the bowl and on its foot. In the style of Emperor Qianlong porcelain. The porcelain work is very beautiful, the decoration is fine with its monochromy of blue. The cut is of a very nice size with an original and very elegant shape. XXth - China The character shòu is a Chinese character representing longevity. It is one of the most important symbols in Chinese superstitious traditions along with fu (福, fú, happiness and good fortune) and lu (禄, lù), prosperity and professional success. The three characters are associated in what is called Fu Lu Shou, also corresponding to three deities of Chinese popular religions. The production of Blue and White really began in China during the Yuan Dynasty. Indeed, scholars and senior officials of the Song dynasty previously preferred the beauty of the simplicity of monochromes, closer to the spirit of Confucianism. But in the 13th century, the Chinese already had knowledge of Kaolin and mastery of kilns: they were thus able to exercise the mastery of their art in the manufacture of superb “Blue and White” pieces.

    Located in Richmond, CA
This Qing Dynasty Daoguang period famille rose porcelain bowl is a masterful example of Chinese ceramic artistry, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities and technical prowess of its time. The exterior of the bowl is finely painted in the famille rose palette, featuring a lush floral scene with pomegranates, branches, leaves, and numerous chrysanthemum flowers set in a rocky garden. Each flower is meticulously rendered, capturing the essence of its natural beauty and symbolic significance—pomegranate representing fertility and chrysanthemum symbolizing longevity. Contrasting the vibrant exterior, the interior of the bowl is elegantly decorated in blue and white. At its center is a medallion encircled by double circle marks, a traditional design element that adds depth to the bowl's overall composition. Adding to the interior's charm are four uniquely decorated lanterns, each adorned with flowing ribbons, further enhancing the bowl's visual appeal. The bowl is finely potted, featuring an inverting rim that adds a subtle yet sophisticated touch to its form. Authenticating the piece is a six-character Qing Daoguang mark within a raised footring, confirming its period provenance. This Daoguang bowl...
