About the Item
Sharing with you this fantastic set of 5 Chinese porcelain serving dishes with underglaze blue. All painted with a fantastic river landscape scene of a scholar contemplating nature.
Ming dynasty, Tianqi or Chongzhen period (1621-1644)
These kind of dishes were were often expressly made for the Japanese tea ceremony meal, the Kaiseki, small dishes for serving food at the tea ceremony are the most commonly encountered form. Designs, presumably taken from Japanese drawings sent to China, are very varied, often using large amount of the white porcelain contrasting well with the asymmetry of the design.
Storage box with inscriptions included.
Condition
All pieces with fritting, 1 piece was in half and kintsugi restored. Size: 17.5x14x3.5CM Approx.
