About

From our recent Japanese Acquisitions - A Treasure From A National Treasure's Teacher Comes this Japanese large extremely finely detailed cast iron vessel with wonderful relief band designs of beautifully articulated seated male spotted deer on one side and an equally attractive seated female spotted deer on opposite side; both comfortably nestled among thinly expressed palm fronds. The studio pot is accented with a pair of simple lug style side handles, several wisps of floral plants on its upper neck and finally a signature on its lower edge. Although made of iron, the material contains iron sand grains, which gives it a natural texture, and the shape and design of the deer are quite delicate and elaborate. Signed : Syuuzan We also include the original wooden kiri wood collector signed storage box tomobako plus we will also include an original letter notation from the previous collector (photo) translated as: "Katori Hotsuma, (1874-`1954) Artist was an acclaimed first Order of Culture as a craftsman and professor of the University of the Arts.
