Beautiful pair (2) old vintage gilt pheasant bird lanterns and censers, signed. From our recent Japanese acquisitions in original condition with original attractive gilding present. Japan, an attractive and iconic pair (2) pheasant form cast two part lanterns and censers with original gilt and green patina. Their pierced and perforated backs are easily removeable to insert your favorite LED, candle, or incense. One is signed JAPAN on bottom. The green pheasant is considered Japan's national bird. Its reflective night light cast's a wonderful glow. This creative adaption makes a compelling contemporary lantern or incense vessel. The boldly modeled bird with separate back plate is rendered as a serene complacent bird. Fine original used condition with original gold gilt patina appropriate to their age. Substantial openings allow reflective bursts of night light or incense sticks to be inserted. Heavy cast quality with original gilt and green patina from age.     A charming and mischievous pair of Japanese carved, gilt and painted komainu, often mistaken for foo dogs or foo lions, Showa Period, 1920's, Japan.
