Japanese Showa Screen Shell Gathering After Katsushika Hokusai

Fascinating Japanese Showa period four-panel byobu screen depicting women shell gathering or clamming after the painting by Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese 1760-1849). The women are gathering at low tide on the beach with mountains in the distance and a foreboding dark green sky above. Amazing painting with intricate details and textures having a muted gilt background. The painting is set in a black lacquered frame with a gold silk brocade border. Very good condition with solid joinery and construction. Painted in the Nihonga school style and signed by artist Koshu on the right corner with a seal. From an estate in the Napa Valley, CA.
