Kiyoshi Saito Signed Japanese Woodblock Print Joko-ji Kamino Yama, circa 1960

$995

About the Item

A beautifully composed woodblock print by famed Japanese printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. Many consider Saito to be one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary Japanese printmakers of the 20th century. This print, titled "Joko Ji Kamino Yama", is of an inviting garden path leading to the temple entrance where light from the Jokoji temple shines through the ancient entrance gate. This is the unlimited edition version of a very similar work Saito did in 1960 of Joko Temple in Nara Prefecture. In this version, the overhanging green tree appears on the right instead of on the left of the print. The work is signed in white ink and stamped/sealed in red within the image by Saito. The print is matted and framed with some information on Saito and the original gallery label on the verso of the frame. Framed dimensions: 20.5" high, 15" wide, 1" deep Viewable art: 15" high x 10" wide Saito's work has been exhibited extensively and can be found in galleries and museums throughout the world including: Achenbach Foundation, Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco Art Institute of Chicago Cincinnati Art Museum Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art Kanagawa Prefectural Museum Los Angeles County Museum of Art Miami Art Museum Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Modern Art, New York City National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo New York Public Library Philadelphia Museum of Art.
