Chinese White Nephrite Jade Melon Shaped Teapot, Late Qing Dynasty, China

About the Item

An extremely fine Chinese carved white or very pale celadon nephrite jade melon-form teapot, late Qing Dynasty, circa 1900 or earlier, China. The elegant teapot carved as a squat melon or pumpkin. The compressed globular body of the teapot beautifully lobed with wide, with a carved with scrolling leaves carved in low relief attached to the vine-form handle. The spout carved as a rolled leaf, while the cover is carved as the stem. Fully finished on the underside as well. The small teapot carved from a single piece of white to very pale celadon nephrite jade. The jade of mostly even color with high translucency. The small teapot is a joy to hold and use. The pot is well balanced when held by the handle. The handle comfortable around the finger. When held in the palm, the jade is cool and smooth to the touch.
