Japanese Antique Wood Carving「Daikokuten」1860s-1900s / Figurine Mingei Wabisabi

About the Item

This is a very old Japanese wooden statue. It is from the Meiji era. (1860s-1900s). It appears to be made of cedar wood. It is called "Daikokuten." Daikokuten is one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune and is famous for carrying a large bag on his shoulder. In Japan, he has been worshipped as a god of fertility. He was also enshrined in old Japanese houses. Its decayed appearance is artistic. It is rare to find them in this condition. It is a very rare statue. Considering that it has been over 100 years since its creation It is miraculous that it exists in this form. It weighs 300g.
