Middle 20th century Old bronze Nepali Buddha statue from Nepal - OriginalBuddhas

About the Item

Unveil the transcendent beauty and spiritual depth of this Old bronze Nepali Buddha statue, a mid-20th-century masterpiece that captures the essence of Himalayan devotion and metallurgical brilliance. Standing 31.3 cm high with a 24.8 cm width and 19.4 cm depth, this imposing fire-gilded bronze sculpture depicts the Buddha in the Bhumisparsha mudra—the iconic gesture of enlightenment, where his hand touches the earth, symbolizing the moment Siddhartha Gautama triumphed over Mara and awakened to universal truth. Originating from Nepal, a land revered for its syncretic artistry, this statue embodies the virtuosity of Newari artisans, whose centuries-old techniques in lost-wax casting and 24-karat gold fire gilding elevated Buddhist iconography to celestial heights. The statue’s luminous gilded surface, weathered to a soft, sacred glow, contrasts with the bronze’s rich patina, while intricate details—such as the serene, meditative expression, elongated earlobes, and cascading monastic robes—reflect Nepal’s devotion to both spiritual and aesthetic precision. Weighing 4.21 kgs, its substantial yet harmonious form speaks to the mastery of alloy balance, ensuring durability while preserving delicate features like the lotus throne (padmasana) and mandorla halo. Created during a resurgence of traditional art in mid-20th-century Nepal, this piece bridges ancient Buddhist symbolism and modernist reverence, likely gracing monasteries, private altars, or royal collections. Adorned with remnants of vermillion or turquoise pigments, it bears traces of ritual use, deepening its historical resonance. Ideal for collectors of Asian religious art, spiritual spaces, or heritage-inspired interiors, this Bhumisparsha Buddha is more than an artifact—it is a conduit to Nepal’s spiritual legacy. With museum-quality preservation and profound cultural significance, it invites contemplation of enlightenment, craftsmanship, and the timeless allure of Himalayan sacred art.
