Statuette of a Chinese Man Wood Ming Dynasty XVIIe Century

$936.84

About the Item

Charming Chinese votive statuette dating from the end of the Ming dynasty. It represents a man in traditional Chinese clothing. It must have been used in ancestor worship, a very important religious practice in Chinese culture. It is made of wood and then painted, the polychromy is very patinated giving a certain charm to the object. The few remnants of polychromy show a delicate execution mainly on the tunic. It has the particularity of having a hollowed-out cover in the back. It is therefore possible to locate it in the Hunan region. This cache made it possible to slip some information concerning the statuette such as the names of the sponsors, the name of the statuette, the reasons for the consecration or the date and the name of the sculptor.
