About the Item

These are THREE very attractive and interesting, Dutch (Netherlands), Delft Ceramic Wall Tiles dating to the 17th Century. All tiles are nominally 5 inches square and 7/16 inches thick. Tile 1 - Top - Polychrome This is probably the oldest tile, dating to the early 17th Century. It is hand painted in varying shades of Cobalt Blue, showing a stylised flower within a triple bordered diamond shape, with additional corner motifs. The centre floral pattern is then hand painted in polychrome enamel colours. Condition: Some edge chipping and edge roughness as per the images. NO cracks and NO restoration. Four small pin holes, one to each corner probably from a previous fastening. Some discolouration to the glaze. Tile 2 - Left - Blue and White Floral Tile: Mid 17th Century All hand painted in varying shades of Cobalt blue, the pattern depicting a stylised tulip flower within a bordered oval shape, with blue motifs to each corner. Condition: Some loss of glaze and nibbling / roughness to the edge front and rim Again, four small pin holes to the corners as per tile above. NO Cracks and NO Restoration. Please see the images. Tiles 3 - Right - Blue and White ; Mid/Late 17th Century. This is hand decorated in cobalt blue shades and depicts a Military Drummer Boy in full period costume, with corner motifs.. Condition : Fair - Some restoration to the edge and front of the glazed area with some glaze crazing. Some edge nibbling, slight losses and glaze wear but NO cracks.
