About the Item

A beautiful stoneware art deco footed bowl. Amazing glaze with details in hand-painted gold. Designed by Gunnar Nylund for ALP (Lidköpings Porslinsfabrik), Sweden, 1930s. Great condition. Stamped 'ALP', 'FLAMBÉ', 'Lidköping, SWEDEN' and impressed with three stars. The vase is an excellent example of the Art Deco porcelains designed by Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) in what he called a "flambé" glaze: rich browns or blue-grays, often highlighted with gold. Nylund worked at the famed Rörstrand porcelain works in Sweden from 1931-1958; and in his later years he became known for his organic forms and mottled glazes. This particular vase is marked "ALP," which was a sister company to Rörstrand in Lidköping, Sweden, located between Stockholm and Gothenburg. In 1932, Rörstrand merged with Lidköping's porcelain factory, and later in the 1930s, the entire production of Rörstrand was moved to Lidköping. ALP existed into the 1940s under its own name, in parallel with Rörstrand, but after 1943 the business was continued under the Rörstrand brand.
