About the Item

A fine quality Regency Era / Georgian Period tea caddy set in sumptuous plum-pudding mahogany. Exquisitely hand-crafted in England at the turn of the late 18th / early 19th century, featuring a well made solid wood case with clean straight lines and simple rectangular chest form, veneered in rare and exotic richly figured plum pudding mahogany, framed by contrasting satinwood edges. The hinged lid top opening to reveal a stunning merlot velvet lined divided interior, fitted with a pair of lidded storage containers, one removeable box for green tea leaves and the other box for black tea leaves, each with very high quality concealed screw brass hinges, scarce quilted mahogany lids with ivorine inlay, framed by boxwood stringing, flanking a center well retaining the original cut glass mixing bowl. Signed, unknown, the mortise lockplate reads S.Line & Co., 2 Lever Dimensions: (approx) 6" High, 12" Wide, 6" Deep, 5 lbs Excellent museum quality condition. Beautifully aged patina adds a rich mellow warmth and elegant lustrous sheen. Strong and sturdy, minimal wear, no key included. Delivered cleaned, hand waxed, polished hand rubbed French patina finish. A truly superb example, displayed as a stunning decorative object, functional table box, desk accessory or stash box, or generously given as a unique and luxurious gift, it's sure to add a touch of timeless elegance, sophisticated style and refinement, and rich historical depth to any space!
