About the Item

19th Century, Pair of French Gilt Bronze Candlesticks with Polychrome Porcelain, marble base The pair of elegant candlesticks with three lights was made in France, in the nineteenth century, in finely chiselled and gilded bronze. Stylistically they are attributable to the French bronze artist Théodore Millet (1853-1904), who often liked to include antique porcelain elements in his bronze works. This could be the case, as the candelabra have two porcelain figures finely painted in polychrome and depicting two characters, one male and one female in eighteenth-century clothing that support a container. These figures are inspired by what produced by the famous Maissen. It dictated the style trend and represented a point of reference to which they looked, in the subjects and in the style, many other manufactures. The bronze structure and porcelain figures rest on square section bases, with rounded back, made of marble and decorated with gilded bronze applications. The three arms, which culminate in the candle holders are chiseled with phytomorphic motifs of Rocaille taste. These two chandeliers, distinctly ornamental, are easily inserted on consoles, drawers or tables, both of ancient and modern times. They are particularly suitable to be placed on corners thanks to the movement of the arms. They will bring great decoration and liveliness to your rooms thanks to the richness of gold and decorations, the bright color that distinguishes the fine porcelain.

Pair of Large Louis XV Style Gilt-Bronze and Samson Porcelain Candelabra
By Samson & Cie
Located in London, GB
A pair of large Louis XV style gilt-bronze and Samson porcelain candelabra French, Late 19th century Measures: Height 68cm, width 54cm, depth 36cm Crafted with great artistry and skill by the Samson porcelain manufactory in late nineteenth century France, these exceptional candelabra feature superb full-length porcelain subjects set within elaborate gilt-bronze lighting branches. Made in the Louis XV style, each pair, symmetrical to each other in design, consists of five-lighting branches, a mount for the porcelain, and elegantly sculpted bases. The porcelain figures are that of a man and woman playing musical instruments, wistfully gazing towards each other while they stroll and play; he plays a variation on the bagpipes, probably the French cabrette, while she plays a large guitar-like stringed instrument. They stand 68cm in height and bear the Samson mark to the underside. Beautiful pieces, the porcelain figures of which can stand separately, they are wonderful examples of French antique...
