Italian, 19th century
Measures: Male figure: Height 192cm, width 77cm, depth 40cm
Female figure: Height 192cm, width 66cm, depth 40cm
The figurative candelabra in this pair are crafted from ebonised wood that has been painted on occasion. Each candelabrum features a stem modelled as a standing figure—one female, one male—who holds aloft the four-light candelabra head. The head is modelled in metal as a leafy vine that winds down beside the figurative stem to the base. The plinth-form base of each features gilt accents and a coat of arms on each side.
