About the Item

A charming and heavy pair of Putti candlesticks modeled and signed by the French sculptor Sylvain Kinsburger. The pair are modeled with great detail and a sense of fluid movement, circa late 19th century. Showing two different putto or cherub figures, each holding a long stemmed flower that forms the candleholder. Cast in Spelter, a zinc and copper alloy often used instead of bronze, and finished with an antique copper and silver tone patina. The candlesticks sit on a polished red marble base. Kinsburger, (1855-1935) was a pupil at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and is known for his cast iron statue, The Reaper, circa 1900, erected at the park of Grandes Promenades de Wassy. His Gouffre en Pierre, made in 1933, is located in the park of Buttes-Chaumont in Paris. His work of the two Atlantean corbells over the entrance of No. 48 bis rue de Rivoli in Paris, was distinguished in the Competition of the Facades of Paris in 1905. His drawings are now kept in Paris at the graphic arts department of the Louvre Museum. Measures: 9.25 in. height Base: 4.5 in. diameter. Very good antique condition a lovely patina. One candleholder base rocks slightly, not effecting the seating.
