Pair of Mid-19th Century Louis XVI Style Marble and Ormolu Mounted Cassolettes
About the Item
A superb pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble and ormolu cassolette urns. Each urn is raised by elegant topie shaped ormolu feet below the square white Carrara marble base decorated with a wrap around beaded band and charming richly chased fitted ormolu plaques of cherubs laying and sleeping among foliage. The socle shaped ormolu pedestal supports display finely detailed foliate bands and striking spiral fluted designs in a rich satin and burnished finish. The beautiful baluster shaped white Carrara marble bodies are encased by finely pierced foliate designs at the base with intricately detailed swan handles leading up each side amidst acanthus leaves and tied by exceptional swaging blooming flower garlands. Above the reeded and foliate bands are the removable lids with fine berried finials which remove to reveal candleholders. All original gilt throughout.
