Handcrafted and rare, Asian style, hand-painted & gilt table, desk or mantel clock. This rare combination-of-styles clock is in good condition, in perfect working order and a joy to own and to look at. We had never before seen a 1930s table clock of this rare Japonisme design and to have found it with these hand-painted, classical and undoubtedly meaningful Japanese, hand-painted scenes more than made our day. This quality crafted, wooden and brass clock with its perfectly bent and beveled glass door is of a beautiful, geometrically rounded Art Deco design. The calm colors that were used to paint the classical Japanese scenes onto the wooden body give this clock an extra serene quality. It is why we refer to this piece as the 'Zen Clock'. The original brass door with the rounded beveled glass door in front of the 'calm design' dial face add to this rare clock's serene look and feel. However, what makes this clock even more special, to us, is the fact that it is battery operated. We have never before seen a (near) antique clock that is battery operated. So this Asian Art Deco specimen can simply be turned off by pulling one of the plugs underneath (as shown in images 14 and 15). In image 16 one can see the ingenious coil (around the iron bar) that keeps the pendulum going back and fourth. To us the mixture of worldly styles and wonderful materials brings out the best of two worlds. Finally, its practical size makes this mantel clock perfect for a table or large desk as well. Its serene quality will help create just the right atmosphere you are looking for.
