About the Item

A mid-century mantel or desk clock by Jaeger-LeCoultre, set within an elegant lucite case decorated with inset brass motifs of fish and rising air bubbles. The clock runs on an eight-day movement and features Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature numerals with original gilded hands. A small “Marine” motif is incorporated into the lower right corner. The piece remains in excellent condition. Jaeger-LeCoultre traces its origins to 1903, when Parisian watchmaker Edmond Jaeger challenged Swiss manufacturers to produce ultra-thin movements of his design. Jacques-David LeCoultre, grandson of company founder Antoine LeCoultre, took up the task, leading to groundbreaking developments in watchmaking. That same year, Cartier entered an exclusive 15-year agreement to use Jaeger’s movements, produced by LeCoultre. This collaboration laid the foundation for the company’s official renaming as Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937, a name that continues to signify innovation and craftsmanship in timepieces.
