Incredible investment quality antique French gilded bronze Empire eight day clock, "Allegory of Poetry" Claude François Rabiat circa 1810, in excellent condition. The clock depicts a handsome tall winged angel holding a stylus and leaning on a column with two volumes on philosophy. The column with four portrait plaques including "Caesar" and the writer/philosopher "Xenophon", there are two further portrait plaques to the side of the column, the clock is raised on a malachite marble plinth with gilt bronze bun feet. The clock having an eight day time and strike mechanism, striking the hours on a mellow sounding bell, the white potrcelain dial with black Roman numerals and signed "a' Paris". The clock works perfectly and has recently been professionally overhauled and cleaned by a clocksmith, the clock keeps very good time, the original key and pendulum is present. Louis XV Rococo style clock and barometer set by Gravelin French, Late 19th Century Clock & Barometer: height 77cm, width 32cm, depth 15cm Designed in the Louis XV Rococo style, this very fine clock and barometer set dates to c.1870 and was made by Parisian makers Paul Gravelin & Louis Marti et Cie in the time of the French Belle Époque. The matching cases are cast with scrolling foliate decoration, with intricate, elegant swirling flowers and ribbons, in rocaille form. The dial of the clock is painted with both Arabic and Roman numerals and signed to the centre 'Paul Gravelin,' above the dial, and below: 'Paris, 8 Rue Charlot,' while the square-plate eight-day movement is by Marti, an stamped 'Louis Marti et Cie, Bronze Medaille.' The gilding is of exceptional quality, and demonstrates the prowess of late nineteenth century Parisian craftsmen, who looked to earlier French regal periods for stylistic inspiration yet updated styles, particularly the Rococo, with their own individual flair, as is evident from these fine antique timepieces.

Stamped to the movement ‘LEROY & FILS A PARIS, 823’. This fine gilt-bronze and champlevé enamel clock has an arched case with outset bulbous columns to the angles, it is surmounted by a drum top with a pierced scroll and ball finial and applied with expressive cherub mounts. The front and sides of the clock are all exceptionally finely painted with neoclassical scenes of figures in an architectural setting and the top and base enriched with fine polychrome champlevé enamel. The clock has an enamelled chapter ring with Roman numerals interspersed with anthemion devices and a twin barrelled, eight-day movement striking on a bell. The firm of Leroy et Fils was founded by Bazile Charles Leroy in 1789. He was a clockmaker to the Emperor Napoléon, The Duke of Orleans, The Duke of Bourbon and Princess Pauline. This superb gorge cased carriage clock is beautifully gilded, with a crisp white enamel dial and a roman chapter ring and outer arabic minutes. The eight day two train movement is regulated by a slivered English lever platform escapement, striking on a blued steel gong, with hour repeat button. The case is numbered 10135 throughout, this coupled with the maker’s mark showing the dates of awards on the front plate, means we can date the clock to between 1878 and 1889. The front and back plates are both marked with Jacot stamps. The front with the medal stamp listing the exposition awards Jacot had won. Bronzes in 1855 and 1862, and silver medals in 1867 and 1878. This stamp did not change until 1889 when Jacot junior won the companies first gold medal. The back plate shows the parrot trademark stamp with the initials HJ which came into use in 1878. The back of the dial is also signed by the enameller and numbered with the serial number. This is a very thoroughly marked and numbered clock in excellent condition. Henri Jacot...
