About the Item

Jaeger LeCoultre - Atmos Clock with Box and Papers Switzerland Brass gold plated Year of manufacture 1978 Dimensions: H x W x D: 24 x 21 x 16 cm. Description: Atmos Vendome calibre 526 with gold-plated base and fluted columns. White dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes. Breguet hands. The Atmos Vendome was produced in several variations. With a gilded base or also with a marble base. The first Vendome appeared in 1962. The model offered here was manufactured by Jaeger LeCoultre under ref. number 5834 from 1973 to 1985. Serial number: 494564 Year of manufacture: 1978. Especially collectible with the original shipping box and papers. This timepiece was sold on 06.04.1979 at the Christ jewelry store in Frankfurt. Condition: Perfect functionality. Absolute accuracy. The photos are not "embellished", the case condition is as shown in the photos. In most of the photos the clock is shown without the front cover, due to the reflection of the flash when taking photos. Interesting facts: The "clock that lives on air" uses the "breathing movements" of a gas-filled bellows that occur during temperature fluctuations to wind the movement. The movement of the clock stands out due to its cylindrical box on the back. Inside, a bellows-shaped expansion chamber contains chloroethyl, a gas that expands particularly strongly between 10 °C and 27 °C. A temperature difference of just one degree Celsius winds the watch for 48 hours. This interesting winding mechanism is complemented by an excellent movement of the utmost precision with a heavy torsion pendulum. The condition for the accuracy of the clock is a stable and vibration-free installation. For decades, the Atmos has been Switzerland's official state gift to prominent visitors, e.g. politicians from abroad. [Source: Jean Lebet - Living on Air / Jürgen Abeler - Ullstein Uhrenbuch] The Atmos Vendome is illustrated in the literature: Jean Lebet - Living on Air p. 69

Jaeger Lecoultre, Atmos Clock from 1967 with Original Box
Located in Greven, DE
Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos clock Switzerland Brass gold plated Year of manufacture 1967 Dimensions: H x W x D: 22 x 17 x 11 cm Description: Atmos VII in gold-plated brass case with black lacquered sides and matt gold brushed dial. Instead of numbers, we see two double lines for 3, 6, 9 and 12 and single lines for the remaining hours. There is a raised logo below the 12, and the words "JAEGER LECOULTRE" and "ATMOS" above and below the hands. A stamped "Swiss Made" logo is located above the dragonfly. Serial number: 252201, year of manufacture 1967. This clock is based on the calibre 528/1 movement and was listed by Jaeger LeCoultre under ref. number 5900. The model was only built from 1967-1970 and is rare to find in the trade today due to its small number of pieces. The original transport box, the so-called "tabernacle", makes this clock doubly interesting. Instead of the usually used levelling screws, which are operated from inside the case, the Atmos VII has a wheel each on the left and right outside of the base for levelling. Condition: The movement runs absolutely reliable and accurate. The condition of the case is also very nice. The gilding is well preserved. There are minimal traces of cleaning on the dial, barely visible to the naked eye. There are also some rusted screws on the underside of the clock, which is not visible in use. The photos are not "embellished", the case condition is as shown in the photos. Points to know: Although Leonardo da Vinci was already able to prove that the production of a perpetual motion machine is physically impossible, it has been tried again...

Jaeger LeCoultre, Atmos Fontainebleu, Swiss Made in 1986
By Jaeger-LeCoultre
Located in Greven, DE
Jaeger LeCoultre - Atmos Fontainebleu Switzerland Year of construction 1986 Dimensions: H x W x D: 25 x 20 x 16 cm Description: Atmos calibre 540 in the rare "Fontainebleu" version in a wooden case. Square ring dial with rounded corners. Roman numerals for hours, fine minute track, Breguet hands with counterweights. "SWISS MADE" is printed below the 6. A manufacturer's engraving and the calibre number can be found on the front movement plate. A "Jaeger LeCoultre" imprint can be seen at the bottom right of the front disc. The Atmos Fontainebleu was listed in the collection from 1987. It was available in various versions - with a square or round dial, with a moon phase, with a black lacquered or mahogany case. Although the clock offered here dates from 1986, it was only listed in the 1987 and 1988 catalogues. Ref. 220.030.4 Serial number: 620514 Year of manufacture: 1986. Condition: Freshly overhauled, very good condition of the movement. Flawless case condition. Interesting facts: Generations of inventors have endeavoured to construct a perpetual motion machine - and one after the other was disappointed to discover that their designs did not work. Today we know that it is technically impossible to build a machine that works continuously without consuming energy. Apart from wear and tear, a machine only works as long as it is supplied with energy: Electricity, gas, petrol... Without human intervention and practically without wear and tear, the Atmos does not run without energy consumption, but it is fed by an energy source that can be described as "eternal": It draws its energy from the constant fluctuations in air temperature. The Atmos literally lives from the air. In order to utilise the temperature fluctuations as an energy source, a suitable medium had to be found. The choice fell on ethyl chloride (C2H5Cl) - a substance that dentists know as an anaesthetic. Ethyl chloride has a very high coefficient of thermal expansion between 10 and 27°C, i.e. the volume change is particularly large in this temperature range. The round can...
