About the Item
Silver-plated bronze inkwell representing a bust of an Arab wearing a turban, which hides the hole for the ink pot, placed on an onyx base
This inkwell in the orientalist style is signed Alp Giroux et Cie
Good condition, a lack behind the hands of the character, linked to the casting
Maison Giroux (family business) was a Parisian manufacturer of furniture and luxury objects intended for bourgeois and aristocratic customers. Very often inspired by the creations of past centuries, Maison Giroux also does not hesitate to innovate and mix new techniques: furniture inlaid with porcelain, toys, sewing kits, mirrors
The taste and refinement of their production endures and the objects / furniture are still highly sought after today
Taken over in 1838 by the brothers Alphonse-Gustave (Paris 1810-1886) and André (Paris 1801-1879) under the company name Alphonse Giroux et Cie, the old Giroux house disappeared in 1885
