About the Item

Very unusual antique continental gilt metal pedestal Rheinstone set globe shaped inkwell dating from the 19th century. The inkwell, possibly Russian or French stands raised on four ball feet attached to thin legs wrapped with wire and supporting a rounded globe shape inkwell the body applied with raised roundel panels of varying size set within a wire work surround and mounted with bright and vibrant Rheinstones. The inkwell has a raised hinged cover also set with a similar Rheinstone panel opening to reveal a recess containing an original removable glass liner. The inkwell is not apparently marked. In good condition with wear associated with age and use with loss and dulling to the gilded finish and with an edge chip to the glass liner.
