Oval rounded "soap" shaped snuff box in 925/1000 sterling silver with fired enamels above and below and hand-painted miniature of a horse's head, English "Art Nouveau" style, early 1900s. Measurements cm. 4.7 x 6.7 x 2. Weight gr. 96. Designed by Franco Salimbeni in 1980 and manufactured in Florence in the headquarters of the Salimbeni company with completely manual execution by artisan artists with thick slab and large reinforcements suitable for withstanding numerous enamelled firings at high heat at about 800° C.
Miniature is a very ancient technique which consists of painting works in small proportions.
It was born for the decoration of the first letter of the paragraph of the books.
Over the years, however, this technique is refined and enriched, then moving on to precious personal items.
Hand-painted miniatures can be done with multiple different techniques.
The most important that we use on our articles are of three kinds:
1) Fire enamel.
2) Water tempera on an ivory plate.
3) Painted on mother-of-pearl.
Fire enameled miniatures:
On a first layer of enamel generally white or very clear or even transparent suitably liquefied at a temperature of about 750 ° C, the chosen subject is painted using miniature colors which are as many colored crystals, ground and reduced to a very fine, almost impalpable powder washed and purified in distilled water with the addition of small quantities of deoxidizing acids which, diluted with essential oils (usually essential oil of solder), can be mixed to form a palette of colors.
With very fine sable hair brushes you draw the subject starting from the perimeter and then gradually adding various layers of color.
It is necessary to carry out various firings very often so that the colors harden and are not absorbed by the underlying glaze as, during the subsequent firings at 750 ° C, during liquefaction, it would spread irremediably. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of large antique George V English sterling silver lyre candlesticks; an addition of our ornamental silverware collection.
These exceptional antique George V English sterling silver candlesticks have been modelled in the form lyre.
The upper portion of the stringed instrument is surmounted with a swept oval capital, encompassed with embossed concave batwing decoration.
The capitals retain the original detachable hallmarked push fit sconces, each embellished with thread decorated borders to the rim.
The column of each candlestick features details replicating the opposing scrolling frame and five-strings of the musical instrument.
Each oval swept base is embellished with fluted batwing decoration, accented with further thread decoration to the rim.
These antique candlesticks have weighted bases and retain the original hallmarked silver lined underside.
Such large candlesticks, modelled in the form of lyre, are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
Condition
These rare sterling silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and are in exceptional condition. Each candlestick has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the rim of the bases, in addition to part hallmarks to the underside and sleeve of the sconce are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Particular pair of toilet bottles in cut and ground by hand crystal; for their execution it was used crystal with a percentage of lead of 30%; the high lead content, instead of calcium present in the common glass, gives the crystal a remarkable hardness, exceptional transparency, and a high refractive index; with the techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing, scrupulously performed by hand, extraordinary light effects and reflections were created; the bottles with the ball body are surmounted by a silver neck and a hinged lid finely chiseled with Victorian motifs. They bear the Classic English silver punches from which we can tell that they were produced in the Victorian style in the city of Birmingham in 1907 (Edward VII) by the firm Phineas Harris Levi & Joseph Wolfe Salaman. The company was founded in 1870 in Birmingham on Northampton Street, in 1872 moved to larger premises on Hockley Street and in 1885 the business was finally moved to a prestigious building on Newhall Street. These magnificent antique George III cast sterling silver candlesticks have a baluster shaped form with a waisted knopped stem onto a shaped base.
The waisted capitals of these exceptional antique silver candlesticks are embellished with gadroon decorated borders.
The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked detachable sconces ornamented with six-shell ornamentation, in addition to further gadroon decoration to the curvilinear-shaped rim.
The upper portion of the waisted shaped column features a shaped knop embellished with six shell designs, reflecting the decoration to the sconce.
The waisted column is further ornamented with fluted decoration, in a swirl design, with a gadroon decorated knop to the lower portion
The shaped bases of these Georgian silver candle holders are embellished with a swept fluted upper portion to six large shell designs, alternating with convex oval bead motifs.
The decoration to each base incorporates a bright cut engraved crest of the bust of a man in profile couped at the shoulders.
The shaped rim of each candlestick features an impressive gadroon decorated border.
These magnificent candlesticks feature a stunning and ornate variation of six-shell decoration and are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire.
