A pair of antique German garden or fountain sculptures in a laying position (male and female) made of hand crafted cast zinc, designed and produced by Philipp Konrad Moritz Geiss, in good condition. These ornaments are probably the final element of a Tympanum group, particularized in white oil mount with gold heightened details, enhanced by detailed moulding. Right hand of the male is missing, due to age. Includes the pair of custom made white pedestals in wood. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1840 - 1850, Berlin, Germany. Male: 23" H x 39.5" W x 13.75" D Female: 21" H x 39.5" W x 13.25" D Tympanum comes from the Greek and Latin words, it means drum. It is the semi-circular or triangular decorative wall surface over an entrance door or window, which is surrounded by a lintel (structural horizontal block) and an arch. A tympanum often includes sculptures or ornaments. Tympana was often used in the Ancient Greek, Roman and Christian architecture. Philipp Konrad Moritz Geiß was a German iron and zinc caster, born in 1805, in Berlin, Germany and passed away in 1875. Impressive Victorian writing slope or travel desk - attributed to the famous company of Thompson - from the period around 1800 - 1815 in the United Kingdom. This fantastic Captain’s campaign writing slope dates back to the Napoleonic wars. Well constructed out of solid mahogany with screwed down mount re-enforcements, brass banding, and inset carrying handles at each end, this outstanding travel desk box was designed to withstand the harsh maritime life at sea. The exterior of this Victorian travel box shows an attractive mahogany grain, beautiful colour, and a lovely pleasing patina. There are a couple of old indented scars to the lid along with the usual minor surface scratching, but these imperfections confer it an absolutely unique charme. The box has a tri-fold operation, opening to reveal a secondary smaller writing surface for quick use, then opening again to reveal the main slope fitted with a green felt writing surface which is in reasonable condition and compliments the original interior. When it is completely opened you have two storage compartments underneath. The original lock works smoothly with the original key. The original interior is nicely fitted out with a dark green leather drop-down section in the lid which features four memoire pockets. This section can additionally be lowered to reveal a document wallet...

Pheasant and Weasel From our Sculpture collection, we are delighted to offer this French Bronze Pheasant by Jules Moigniez. The French Bronze of good scale cast with a large male Pheasant clambering upon a rocky outcrop startled by a Weasel hiding within the foliage. The Pheasant naturalistically cast with individual feathers visible, sharp claws and spurs above the foot. The Weasel sits hidden in the foliage visible from viewing the French Bronze from the side as it shocks the Pheasant. The French Bronze signed to the front left on a rock face J. Moigniez (Jules Moigniez). The bronze sculpture dates to the late 19th century belle époque period Circa 1870. Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was born at Senlis, Oise, just north of Paris, France on the 28 May 1835 the son of a metal gilder. Moigniez studied under Paul Comoléra (1813-1890) a specialist Animalia sculptor. It is clear that Moigniez’s career in Animalia was passed down from his tutors specialism in Animalia and in particular birds. Moigniez father bought a foundry specifically to cast his son’s sculptures. This gave Moigniez a huge advantage compared to other artist as it greatly reduced his costs during manufacturing and increased productivity keeping the process in-house. This is a solid silver Anglo-Indian bowl decorated with seated Dieties and made in India in the late 19th century, circa 1880. The small circular bowl is made of solid silver and has a low foot. The bowl has been beautifully hand chased with seated Dieties in different poses within circular panels which form a continuous pattern around the bowl set between a flower and leaf motif, with a lower border below the figures. The bowl weighs 79 gram. Overall, a beautiful antique solid silver bowl.

Antique 19th century Gilbert (William) Manufacturing Company Ogee style weight driven American Empire shelf clock. Made of walnut featuring gold and marbled columns, reverse painted floral roses, roman numeral face and brass works. Signed and dated on back, this clock was one of the last made before the fire closed the factory and the reincorporated under a new name. William L. Gilbert was born in 1806 in Northfield, CT (a village of Litchfield) and became interested in the booming clockmaking business at Bristol in 1828. In that year he and his brother–in–law George Marsh purchased a clock factory and formed the firm Marsh, Gilbert & Co. In 1835 Gilbert and John Birge formed Birge & Gilbert. In 1839 Gilbert became part of Jeromes, Gilbert, Grant & Co. to make the newly introduced 30 hour brass weight driven clock.
