Black Oval Ceramic Sculpture with 2 Rows of Small Pointed Feet
About the Item
A new series of small sculptures in the Modern Totemic vein. Not exactly humanistic, but they do have feet and personality. They are abstracted, offering a feeling of historic beings, of something from the past, or the future. There is life but where is it from? While making these I think of all the different life forms found on earth, from the molecular to the human, to the inanimate. From the deepest oceans to the sky, life forms exist in widely varied, often unimaginable shapes. As I discover each one I feel I am being introduced to something with a life and history of its own. As in most of my work I am interested in abstracting the idea, simplifying it to its most basic essence. Here it is a Hollow Oval Form With 2 Rows of Small Pointed Feet. Using my favorite dark chocolate clay body and hand building each piece, each foot, the first in this edition are coated in a rich black slip. This slip, or liquid clay, has a remarkable depth, showing the clay body, the artist's hand, while yielding a fine sheen. It is black with dark brown undertones. The pieces are fully fired. However, since it is not glazed, it is still porous, so it is best not submerge in water.
Signed with Artist's Chop underneath.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
I am developing some new tones to add to the palate. Feel free to make a request, glazes are also an option.
