Concept and Inspiration This series is an ode to stillness and contemplation, a meditative state in which the human body gradually becomes immersed in its natural environment. Ramumas represents a key stage in the evolution of my artistic practice, where the integration of new techniques and an in-depth exploration of materials come together to create a piece that is both intimate and universal.Materials and Techniques The artwork consists of three main materials: wood, metal (aluminum), and clay, each embodying the passage of time and our connection to nature.1. Wood: A piece of hazel wood, collected from the mountains, was chosen for its raw and organic texture. Sculpted with a knife, it retains the natural marks of its growth and the work of the hand. The wood is then patinated to a darker hue, which accentuates the contrast with the aluminum.2. The Aluminum Lung: Made from aluminum cast in a sand mold, this lung symbolizes the vital breath that animates all forms of life. The contrast between the density of the metal and the lightness of the concept of breathing creates a subtle tension, highlighting both the fragility and the strength of life. The aluminum used for this piece is recycled, adding anecological dimension and a direct link to the material's transformative cycle. The lung is suspended by a piece of stoneware, designed to play a key role in the overallstructure of the artwork. This stoneware piece, both functional and symbolic, serves as theanchor for the wood branch while visually evoking the bones of a ribcage. It reinforces theidea of a symbiotic relationship between the human body and its natural environment, where each element is intrinsically linked to the other.3. Clay: Hand worked, the stoneware allows the creation of free forms, symbolizing the deep, ancestral connection between man and the earth. To assemble the piece, I use the traditional coiling technique, an ancient method that involves layering coils of clay to shape the structure. After a few days of drying, I begin to create relief on the surface, followed by another drying period. Then, I refine the reliefs by sculpting them carefully, emphasizing the contrasts between hollows and solids, subtly playing with the interaction of shadow and light.Once the modeling is complete, the piece is carefully sanded, with each surface being worked meticulously to ensure a smooth, uniform finish. It is then fired at a high temperature of 1280°C to ensure the strength and durability of the material. For the final step, I apply two layers of metallic patinas, followed by an oxidizing solution to provoke a natural rust reaction. This process gives the piece a patinated look, as though it had been left abandoned in nature for several years, thereby reinforcing the idea of a return to the wild and a fusion between art and the natural world.Aesthetics and References The aesthetics of Ramumas are deeply rooted in references to nature, with organic forms inspired by the ripples of water and patterns formed by the wind on the sand. However, this artwork also carries an ornamental dimension, drawing from Roman architecture, evoking a dialogue between living nature and the artificial structures shaped by mankind. This harmonious marriage of these two worlds creates a visual confrontation that invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship between civilization and nature. The sculpted curves and raw textures interact with one another, creating a contemplative space where each element bears the trace of its creation process, from the hand of the artisan to the influence of natural forces. Ramumas thus invites immersion into the fragile harmony between humanity and its environment.
My name is Eglė Šimkus, and I was born in Lithuania in 1990 to a Russian mother and a Lithuanian father. I lived in Lithuania until 1999 when I arrived in France.
My artistic work explores the deep connection between the intimate and the surrounding environment. I blend different forms of artistic expression, including writing, painting, and sculpture, to create a dialogue between the body and its context.
In my work, I seek to deconstruct the traditional form to convey different perspectives of reality. Surrealism exerts a major influence, where painting becomes a fusion of ideas and elements in an imaginary world. The human body plays a central role in my creation, serving as the foundation and essence of my works.

Galerie Philia
Galerie Philia is an international contemporary sculptural design and art gallery representing emerging and established designers and artists. The gallery is the brainchild of two brothers who share a lifetime passion for art, literature and philosophy. Their distinct academic background sets them apart from their peers, as it sees them following a rhizomatic and transcultural approach in the way they select works. This involves combining elements from multiple cultures in what becomes a network of harmoniously interconnected roots, ultimately revealing the beauty of each unique creation. The gallery’s non-hierarchical curation sits apart from the ephemerality of trends and focuses instead on the true aesthetic quality of the piece – alluring and timeless. Unlike others, Galerie Philia does not focus on a single style – whether minimalist, organic or raw – but rather embraces heterogeneity. The Galerie Philia takes pride in discovering new talents, providing them with multiple international platforms to showcase their latest creations. As well as propelling the newest generation of 21st century collectible design, Galerie Philia also works with internationally known design artists. Galerie Philia has a strong international presence, with galleries in Geneva, New York and Singapore. In addition to their permanent spaces, the gallery organizes temporary group exhibitions and artists residencies in first-class locations around the world.
