Stone sculpture by Chantalle Smeets, ca 2010

About the Item

Stone sculpture by Chantalle Smeets, ca 2010 A polished stoneware sculpture, abstract made by Chantalle Smeets ca 2010. Confirmed by the artist herself. Chantalle Smeets (1967-) Heerlen (The Netherlands), was inspired by a ballet dancer who died of a brain tumor. She shared her ballet past with this teacher. After this contact, Chantalle started making pastel drawings. She experimented a lot with colors, in which she still finds her passion. Inspired by nature, she now paints with oil paint, pastel, acrylic paint and charcoal. Her paintings full of deep colors are a combination of reality and abstraction. There are figures that fade away or are captured in light, emerging from nowhere. She often sees dancing or moving people in the irregular branches and roots of trees. And like the roots of trees, figures take hold, closed and in surrender, resting in her paintings. Chantalle lives with artist Martiene Stevens, her life partner. They each have an open studio and together they manage “ARTHUIS TROBAR”, in Riemst (Belgium) Chantalle also works as a dance and yoga teacher, with children and adults. This gave rise to the need to convert this expression into visual art. She wants to convey something of recognition, comfort and emotion. She also makes sculptures from clay, bronze and stone, from large to small. Each image requires “its own color”. Her paintings match her images and often deal with the same subject. The measurements are 47 cm / 57 cm high 55 cm / 60 cm wide The depth is 12 cm / 22 cm The weight is ca 18 kilos Please see the details in the pictures
