About the Item

Finely Cast Bronze Abraham Lincoln Profile Bust Bookend or Doorstop, in the Style of Victor David Brenner, ca. 1930s Bronze Lincoln Bookend or Doorstop, in the Style of Victor David Brenner Description: A finely detailed early 20th-century bronze profile bust of Abraham Lincoln, mounted as a bookend or doorstop and cast using a refined investment casting (lost-wax) or shell mold technique. The bust captures Lincoln in right-facing profile with exceptional sculptural detail—from the textured hair and deeply modeled features to his signature beard and solemn expression. Mounted on a machined steel base plate, this piece is both functional and commemorative, designed for use as either a bookend or doorstop. The reverse and underside show typical wear and oxidation consistent with early 20th-century fabrication. Notably, the bust closely mirrors Victor David Brenner’s 1909 design for the Lincoln penny, which was released to commemorate the centennial of Lincoln’s birth. Like the coin, this bust presents Lincoln in a heroic profile, honoring his legacy as a unifying national figure. It reflects the Beaux-Arts and American Renaissance sensibilities of the period and the public’s reverence for Lincoln as a symbol of integrity and democracy. Unsigned, but of markedly higher quality than typical sand-cast examples. Dimensions: 7.75” H x 4.5” W x 4” D Condition: Very good vintage condition. Warm reddish-brown patina with minor surface rubbing. Light oxidation to the steel base is consistent with age. Structurally sound and display-ready. Attribution: American foundry work, circa 1930s
