About the Item

Wonderful vintage Marwal Industries plaster & resin statuary busts of a family of 3 including a father, mother, & son. Specifically, there is some minor crazing & we have touched up a couple paint nicks on the father and done some gluing of cracks in the finish on the boy. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. The definition of Family… “a group of persons united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption, constituting a single household and interacting with each other in their respective social positions, usually those of spouses, parents, children, and siblings.” Is there anything better than a strong family bond? Not in my world. And, this group of three magnificent vintage busts by Marwal is a marvelous representation of a beautiful family unit. The turbaned father and scarf or hijab covered mother busts are marked Marwal molds composed of plaster while the mold of the boy is not marked and composed of a composite resin. All three have been intricately hand painted with wonderful realistic facial details and lovely colors including brown, beige, off-white, and rustic red. Their faces have docile, loving expressions with delicate peach lips that draw your attention, and eyes that seem to stare into your soul. They will be incredibly displayed anywhere in your home whether upon a credenza in the family room, in a beautiful display case among other wonderful sculptures and artwork, or on your coffee table in the living room among books and foliage. They are nothing short of incredible representations of a strong family bonded together with love, loyalty, and forever unified commitment. Isn’t that what we all long for?? Marwal Industries Inc. was founded in Brooklyn, NY, around the mid-1960s, by Romanian immigrant Marcel Walters. Walters used the first syllables of his first and last names, to name his company. He worked as a salesman in Brooklyn for a company that made statues and sculptures which inspired him to start his own company. Marwal produced chalkware sculptures and statues that were made with Hydrastone, a mixture of plaster of Paris and gypsum. Marwal products consisted of over 200 figurines, sculptures, and statues. The lines included those with traditional figures, museum reproductions, Oriental figures, bookends, Bali heads, animals, and modern sculptures. Marwal had both a permanent showroom in New York City and Dallas as well as independent representatives with showrooms in Kansas City, Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Chicago selling their products. In addition, some retailers Marwal sold to include J. C. Penny, Montgomery Ward, and Sears. In the 70’s Marwal moved to Florida and began creating a line of painted plastic animals, some that were almost three feet tall. The company’s sales began to decline in the mid-70’s and they shut down in the mid-80’s. Family is composed of unity, devotion, and unconditional love, and you certainly feel that in the presence of these marvelous Marwal sculptures. Don’t let all this love pass you by… Make them YOURS!!! Old Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus Plaster Statue Sculpture
Located in Topeka, KS
Glorious Late 19th to Early 20th Century Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus plaster statue sculpture upon a gilded wood base. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, his hands only had the wire structure so new hand-molded & crafted hands were created by our professional craftsmen and the wood on the base was bad so it has been given a new gilded wood base. He has many chips in the plaster that have been repaired and the whole statue has been shellacked. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 19th – Early 20th Century. Heaven knows we could all use a little more Jesus in our lives!! Well, your prayers have just been answered!!! This is an absolutely magnificent Ecclesiastical Religious Art plaster statue of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. He is comprised of hand sculpted and hand painted plaster and he stands about 43 inches tall upon a square flat edge gilded wood base. He has handsome, realistic, intricately hand painted facial features, and his glorious dark brown shoulder length hair drapes gracefully upon his shoulders. He wears a lovely, flowing robe featuring the Sacred Heart symbol upon his chest and his beautiful bare feet are exposed at the base of his robe. His enticing hands are open and reaching out as if to welcome you into his arms. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most widely practiced Catholic Faith devotions wherein the heart of Jesus Christ is viewed as a symbol of “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind.” The Sacred Heart is depicted as a flaming heart shining from behind with divine light, pierced by the lance with a bleeding wound, and encircled by the crown of thorns. And Christian faith depicts it more as a flaming heart, while the wounds and crown of thorns allude to the manner of Christ’s passion and the flames a furnace of ardent love. You can depict it how you choose! We believe that his original home was most likely a wonderful old church where he was admired for many years. Due to his materials, he should only be exhibited indoors…. Which is exactly where we all need the Lord to be anyway… on the inside!!! He will be absolutely divine in your entry way or heavenly in a sunroom surrounded by indoor foliage or faux plants & trees. He has an all-over “perfectly imperfect” aged patina, a few “character enhancing” chips that you would expect given his vintage age, and an angelic aura...
