About the Item

This Orientalist figure is about as lifelike as you will ever see in bronze. The expression on his face, his detailed hands and beard are all cast with an incredible attention to detail. The snake is just as well modeled to include his, ever so hypnotizing, green glass eyes. The man's clothing is hand carved alabaster, and the coloring of the alabaster is really brings it to life and is not the usual path taken. The brown mottling of his garb is one of our favorite characteristics of this sculpture. This is definitely a personal favorite of ours for all the reasons above. As good as this looks in the photos, it does not communicate how special this really appears in person. I had this same sculpture decades ago, but the alabaster was mostly white. But, I never forgot how much I enjoyed it and the incredible attention it garnered when I took it to an antique exhibition. It sold immediately, and I wondered if another would ever come my way. I always hoped I would run into another example. This one is even better than the example I sold over 20 years ago.
