About the Item

This large 19th-century wooden wheel once bore the weight of an ox-drawn wagon or farm cart. The impressive wheel is richly aged with wabi-sabi texture, burnished smooth from years of use and marked with deep grooves along the wood grain. The circular form is reinforced with an iron trim along the edges and an old iron repair seams a split to the wood. Elevated by a steel display mount, the rustic wheel becomes an abstract sculpture, its striking silhouette reminiscent of an ancient stone bi disc or scholars' rock. Deaccessioned from the MacLean Collection of Asian Art.
