About the Item

A stunning large Charles Brannam flagon shaped art pottery handled jug with low relief sgraffito designs of swimming fish by William Baron and dated 1890. The stylish earthenware jug stands on a flat rounded base with a flagon shaped body with a pinched neck and shaped pouring spout. A small twist handle is applied to the side. The jug is hand decorated with fish swimming amongst weed to one side and is painted in tones of blue, green, white and brown against a contrasting treacle brown glazed ground with a lighter brown area to the lower body. The jug has incised Ch Brannam Barum marks along with WB monogram for William Baron and is also dated 1890 and numbered 279. In good condition with some minor surface glaze scuffs which do not detract. Provenance: From the property of a Belgian based Gentleman collector.
