Article: Ceramic stoneware object Designer and producer: Horst Kerstan, Kandern in Germany Information: Horst Kerstan (born March 29, 1941 in Frankfurt, † March 21, 2005 in Kandern) was a German ceramist, craftsman and internationally recognized artist. Founder of Group 83. Decade: 1980s This original vintage Studio Stoneware Object was designed by Horst Kerstan and produced in his own Studio in the 1980s in Kandern in Germany. It is made of solid stoneware pottery and has a very unique brown beige coloration and structure. the bottom is marked with typical Kerstan Producer signature K and signed with Keratin. a very collectible and very rare item of the Kerstan Collection. the object has a very sculptural form and in its size of 25cm in length, 14,5cm in height and 16cm in depth, it is very impressive. straighforward and minimalistic design of the 1980s design era. This item is a wonderful addition to every modern home. Dimensions: Height 14,5cm Length 25cm Depth 16cm. Condition: This item is in a very good vintage condition with patina. VITA Horst Kerstan: Horst Kerstan grew up in Frankfurt am Main, where he became acquainted with the manufacture of ceramic products through his father Walter Kerstan, who headed the "Ceramic Colors" department of Farbwerke Hoechst AG. After a porcelain painter apprenticeship, he worked from 1956 to 1957 as a porcelain painter in the porcelain manufactory of Hoechst AG, then from 1957 to 1959 in the ceramics department of the Werkkunstschule Offenbach (today: Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main) with Lore Kramer-Koehn, the wife of Frankfurt architect Ferdinand Kramer, the pottery to learn and incidentally at the College of Fine Arts, Frankfurt, the drawing. After Kerstan met the ceramist and painter Richard Bampi at the Frankfurt trade fair in 1958 and learned to appreciate his work, he became his apprentice and pupil. After the potter's apprenticeship in Kandern from 1959 to 1962, the journeyman's examination in Stuttgart and work as a journeyman for a year in an Italian ceramics manufactory, Kerstan returned to Kandern to become a master student of Richard Bampi in 1963. After the death of his master in 1965, Kerstan took over and acquired his workshop with estate and became independent there in 1967 after the master examination. In 1971 he became a member of the Academie International de la Céramique in Geneva and founded the "Gruppe 83" of renowned German ceramists. Like Richard Bampi, Horst Kerstan supported numerous young ceramists as pupils, trainees or apprentices. a. Jan Kollwitz and Uwe Loellmann, on their way to creative independence. In his first marriage, Horst Kerstan was married to Waltraud Kerstan (née Liebeneiner) from 1966 to 1986 and in second marriage from 1989 to 2005 with the ceramist Beate Sturm-Kerstan, who continues his pottery workshop in Kandern.

Article: Ceramic object Designer and producer: Dieter Crumbiegel Information: Dieter Crumbiegel (born June 6, 1938 in Essen) is a German artist (painting, ceramics) and university professor. Since 1961, Crumbiegel has held solo and group exhibitions of ceramic objects in West and East Germany, Belgium, CSFR, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary and Taiwan. Decade: 1980s This original vintage Studio Ceramic Object was designed by Dieter Crumbiegel and produced in his own Studio in the 1960s in Heinsberg in Germany. It is made of solid very heavy stoneware pottery and has a very unique light beige main coloration with abstract brown illustration. the bottom is marked with typical Producer signature. a very collectible and very rare item of the Crumbiegel Collection. the object has a very sculptural form and in its size of 18cm in height and 21cm in diameter, it is very impressive. straightforward and minimalistic design of the 1980s design era. This item is a wonderful addition to every modern home. Dimensions: Height 18cm Diameter 21cm. Condition: This item is in a very good vintage condition with patina. slight traces of use. VITA: Dieter Crumbiegel graduated from high school in 1957 at the traditional language Burggymnasium in Essen. He then studied painting from 1957 to 1961 at the State University of Fine Arts in Kassel with Fritz Winter and Marie-Louise von Rogister, ceramics with Walter Popp, art theory and art sociology with Stephan Hirzel and Georg Hoeltje, and art history and art education with Ernst Röttger. During the 1958/1959 academic year he received a holiday scholarship from the Max Beckmann Society and spent some time in the Liliamor house with its founder Lilly von Mallinckrodt-Schnitzler in Murnau. In 1959 he also received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. Crumbiegel completed his studies in 1961 with the first state examination. After the 2nd state examination in 1964, Crumbiegel worked with Robert Sturm at the educational institute in Fulda as a lecturer for the training of art and craft teachers at general schools with a training focus on the construction of vascular ceramics. In 1971 he took over the class for sculpture and architectural ceramics at the State Technical School for Ceramic Design in Höhr- Grenzhausen. From 1979 to 2001 he was a professor at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld in the design department, studying ceramics/porcelain/glass design. In 1979, Crumbiegel was appointed a member of the Académie Internationale de la Ceramique (AIC) / International Academy of liamorCeramic in Geneva. The German members of the AIC joined together in 1983/1984 to form Group 83 - German Ceramicists,[1] of which he himself became a member in 1986. Crumbiegel founded the “Krefeld School for Ceramics/Design”[2] as a continuation of the Kassel School for Ceramics run by his teacher Walter Popp, from which artists and designers such as Frank Louis emerged. In 1983 he was appointed supervisor at Helwan University in Giza/Cairo. From 1971 he gave lectures on new trends in ceramic art at the Hetjens Museum in Düsseldorf.
