Patinated Brass Aorta Vase by Carl Auböck

About the Item

Large 'Aorta' vase by Carl Auböck in patinated brass. This aorta-shaped vase has a rough appearance that is accentuated by shiny brass openings. Designed by Carl Auböck II in 1949. Finish varies from item to item due to the handmade nature of the fabrication. The traditional Carl Auböck Werkstätte was founded in the 19th century as a metal workshop for hunting belts and is still located in the original Viennese mansion in the 7th district in Vienna, Austria. In the years of its foundation, the studio mainly produced the so-called Wiener Bronze & Art Deco. In 1926, the workshop was passed from father to son, Carl Auböck II, who gave the company new ideas. This was the beginning of the typical Auböck signature designs. Together with his son Carl Auböck III, who developed friendships with influential designers such as Walter Gropius and Charles and Ray Eames, they worked for Hermes and Píerre Cardin, among others. His design career reached the pinnacle of the 'Triennial di Milano' in 1954, where he received four gold medals for his work. Carl Auböck designs have an unmistakable signature and are beloved collectibles of exceptional quality. Ships from stock.
