Frank Lloyd Wright Imperial Hotel "Cabaret" Footed Mug, Art Deco

About the Item

Frank Lloyd Wright Collection footed mug is decorated with artist's renown Imperial Hotel "Cabaret" design. To accomplish his vision for organic architecture with fully integrated environment, Wright designed art glass, furniture, and other interior design objects, including dinnerware, for his buildings. This set was created in 1922 for "Cabaret" dining room in Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, which opened in 1923. The dinnerware was originally produced by Noritake; latter reproductions, authorized by Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, included versions made by Noritake and Tiffany, as well as various museum reproductions. The mug is 1990s reproduction with architectural c-shaped handle and minimal footed base details that elevate the appearance of otherwise utilitarian object and interplay with circular Art Deco style pattern that was Wright's interpretation of champagne bubbles. Bright, festive colors of the pattern are offset by simple white porcelain background. The mug measures 4.25" in height and 3.25" in diameter.
