17th Century Delft Blue & White Charger

About the Item

17th century delft blue & white charger is a timeless interpretation of the Japanese porcelains that were so popular in Europe, replicated by the master ceramicists in the Delft region of Holland, and most experts agree, equivalent in quality to the Oriental artworks. This particular example is identified as hailing from the workshop of Aelbrecht Cornelis de Kaiser. It was this ceramist who was the first to succeed in imitating Japanese porcelain by means of earthenware of a remarkable lightness, a very white and pure glaze, a dazzling enamel; a blue cameo decor, which give the illusion of Japan, apart from the transparency. Its mark, still in blue, was AK. His sons and sons-in-law continued this manufacture until around 1670. Circa 1642-1670 Measures 2.5H x 14 in diameter.
