Royal Doulton Scarce Winston Churchill Character Jug 1940

About the Item

A stylish and scarce Royal Doulton Winston Churchill character jug believed to have been made to commemorate him becoming Prime Minister on 10th May 1940 and dated accordingly. The ceramic jug of small size portrays him sat raised on an oval shaped base and wearing a black rimmed hat with a brown over coat over a black waist coat, trousers and shoes and a bow tie. He holds a glove and walking stick in one hand and has a customary cigar between his lips. He is well detailed with a wonderful facial expression and is naturalistically hand painted. The jug is numbered 8360A and has printed black makers marks to the base and is titled WINSTON CHURCHILL PRIME MINISTER OF GREAT BRITAIN and dated 1940. The jug also bears a printed paper label reading ‘from The Royal Doulton Minton Archive Collection’. Provenance: From the Royal Doulton Minton Archive Collection, acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with some natural glaze flaws in the making.
