About the Item

This a mid size, Early 19th Century Platter of over 12 inch width made by Mason's Ironstone in the Bamboo and Basket Chinoiserie pattern, dating to the English Georgian period, Circa 1818. Very early 19th century Mason's Ironstone platters are rare and this is a good heavy example with no damage. This platter is beautifully hand decorated with one of Mason's bold Chinoiserie patterns called the Bamboo and Basket pattern, with much hand enamelling in typical colourful enamels, over a well printed pattern, as illustrated on Page 106 of A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns c 1813 to c 1848 . It carries one of the earliest impressed marks; MASON'S PATENT IRONSTONE CHIMA, in a straight line, together with an early wide spaced Mason's printed mark in black, with the crown and banner, dating this piece to 1813 to 1820.
