About the Item

A majolica multi-colored glazed fringed leaf on basket weave handled server, Josiah Wedgwood, Burslem, England – circa 1870. A leaf shaped molded shallow bowl with a pierced twig handle, showing a large fringed edged leaf on a basketweave ground. Realistically molded with the woven basket forming the shaped rim. Most often found in a solid green glaze, leaf plates and servers were also made briefly in full color during the late 1800’s as part of Wedgwood’s Leafage series. These full color plates are glazed in a combination of brown, yellow ochre, and green. They are rather scarce glazed in full color. The shaped server is molded with the single, large fringed edge leaf on a looped basket weave ground, with an open handle. Crisp mold work seen on the basket weave rim and to the veining of the leaf. Bright majolica glazing. An interesting treatment to the verso, showing the hand of the glazer. 9.5 inches in Diameter x 1.0 inches H Impressed Wedgwood along with date code letters Delicately potted – Incredible antique condition.
