A Japanese Imari porcelain plate from the 19th century, with hand-painted blue and white foliage, tree and architecture décor. Created in Japan during the 19th century, this Imari porcelain plate features a delicate blue and white décor divided into four distinct sections: lucious foliage, blooming trees, large leaves and a traditional house with mountains in the background occupy the composition beautifully. Ginori 1735 "Il Viaggio Di Nettuno" Set of Two Moka Cups and Saucers, 2023
Located in Cagliari, IT
The "Il Viaggi di Nettuno" pattern is inspired by Luke Edward Hall’s love of Greco-Roman mythology, and particularly Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, and his wife Salacia, the collection represents an unconventional vision of the art of the table, a dialogue between classical and modern. Drawings of the gods decorate plates, placeholders, cups and vases, and bold, unexpected colours infuse the chinaware with personality. With Il Viaggio di Nettuno collection, Ginori 1735 reinterprets the table in a modern vein with uniquely designed objects that are veritable artistic installations. Luke Edward Hall is an English artist and designer. Luke's philosophy is shaped by his love of storytelling and fantasy. Born in 1989 is described by both The Times and The Guardian as a "rising design star". He was educated at Central Saint Martins, and worked for Ben Pentreath...

Antique Kobenhavns Porcellains Maleri Royal Bayreuth Floral Tea Coffee Service
Located in Dayton, OH
Early to mid 20th century exquisite twelve piece gilded floral tea set including a lidded teapot, creamer, lidded sugar bowl, six teacups, and dessert serving tray. Dessert tray by Royal Bayreuth Bavaria. Tea set by Kobenhavns Porcellains Maleri. "Royal Bayreuth is the name of a factory that was founded in Tettau, Bavaria, in 1794. It closed in 2019. It made figural and souvenir items from about 1885 to 1915, but its most important products have been tableware and coffee and tea sets. The marks have changed through the years. A stylized crest, the name Royal Bayreuth, and the word Bavaria appear in slightly different forms from 1870 to about 1919. Later dishes may include the words U.S. Zone (1945–1949), the year of the issue, or the word Germany instead of Bavaria." "The Copenhagen Porcellain Decorating Workshop was founded in 1883. In 1924 it was acquired by the wholesaler company Holst & Knudsen. Holst & Knudsen imported to Denmark whiteware porcelain from Germany and decorated it.The Great Depression made difficult importing cheap German porcelain. That's why Holst & Knudsen established in 1936 own porcelain factory Porcelænsfabriken Danmark. During first years of production, the factory was using the Kjøbenhavns Porcellains Maleri (KPM) mark. It continued production till 1969. In 2012, the Danish Porcelain Manufactory – Lyngby Porcelæn...

Antique and Vintage Porcelain Dinner Plates, Platters and Serveware for Sale

Today you’re likely to bring out your antique and vintage porcelain in order to dress up your dining table for a special meal.

Porcelain, a durable and nonporous kind of pottery made from clay and stone, was first made in China and spread across the world owing to the trade routes to the Far East established by Dutch and Portuguese merchants. Given its origin, English speakers called porcelain “fine china,” an expression you still might hear today. "Fine" indeed — for over a thousand years, it has been a highly sought-after material.

Meissen Porcelain, one of the first factories to create real porcelain outside Asia, popularized figurine centerpieces during the 18th century in Germany, while works by Capodimonte, a porcelain factory in Italy, are synonymous with flowers and notoriously hard to come by. Modern porcelain houses such as Maison Fragile of Limoges, France — long a hub of private porcelain manufacturing — keep the city’s long tradition alive while collaborating with venturesome contemporary artists such as illustrator Jean-Michel Tixier.

Porcelain is not totally clumsy-guest-proof, but it is surprisingly durable and easy to clean. Its low permeability and hardness have rendered porcelain wares a staple in kitchens and dining rooms as well as a common material for bathroom sinks and dental veneers. While it is tempting to store your porcelain behind closed glass cabinet doors and reserve it only for display, your porcelain dinner plates and serving platters can safely weather the “dangers” of the dining room and be used during meals.

Add different textures and colors to your table with dinner plates and pitchers of ceramic and silver or a porcelain lidded tureen, a serving dish with side handles that is often used for soups. Although porcelain and ceramic are both made in a kiln, porcelain is made with more refined clay and is stronger than ceramic because it is denser.

On 1stDibs, browse an expansive collection of antique and vintage porcelain made in a variety of styles, including Regency, Scandinavian modern and other examples produced during the mid-century era, plus Rococo, which found its inspiration in nature and saw potters crafting animal figurines and integrating organic motifs such as floral patterns in their work.
