Antique 20th Century Japanese Porcelain Bowl with Boat Motif
About the Item
A beautiful porcelain bowl from Japan. A piece which has unique characteristics such as the mythical boat motif in the centre of the bowl.
It has a special feeling - somewhat minimalist - somewhat spiritual. The design of the ship feels very whimsical and extremely of the Japanese sensibility. The bowl is in wonderful condition and the quality of both the glaze and porcelain has remained beautifully preserved, reflecting the light that hits it.
The history of the bowl comes from Japan, where I had found it in an antique shop close to a neighbouring shrine.. Some 45 minutes or so by subway from Tokyo. Like all my items - they speak to tradition, quality, craftsmanship, history and sense of place. Items that are one of a kind. Holding some sensibility of mystery while also existing as a functional object.
