About the Item

English porcelain teapot. Polychrome decoration inspired by William Shakespeare's ‘Hamlet’. It has a unique design with a rectangular shape and a curved spout delicately decorated with gilded details. The handle is also decorated in gold. The main decoration of the teapot is reminiscent of a theatrical stage, with green curtains and decorative elements that recall the masks of comedy and tragedy, symbols of classical theatre. In the centre, a vibrant illustration depicts an iconic scene from ‘Hamlet’, where the protagonist interacts with his father's ghost in front of a castle. The richness of the details, such as the Renaissance costumes of the characters and the authentic background, bring a narrative touch to the play. In the background, Sadler Staffordshire England, Hamlet, Act 1, Sc.V. with registered design by collector James Sadler.
