About the Item

Quite possibly a "one off", this very early English Spode pattern no. 257 is a much earlier "prototype" for Spode's also very early, highly-collected pattern no. 1291, but much earlier. The late 18th century "Japonisme" or chinoiserie influence is evident in this exceptional pattern. Hand painted in the most fantastic palette of "imari" decorations, this is a museum quality cabinet plate worthy of a special collections. (Actually purchased in the UK from a lifelong collector of early English pottery and porcelain, this gentleman possessed some of the most extraordinary pieces and I am coming to find that there are few that are similar to those from his collection.) The obvious hairline at the back has not been restored nor has the foot rim chip, but both are illustrated and mentioned for accuracy. The A/F condition has been greatly taken into consideration in its price and is structurally sound. Please look at the details. It displays beautifully.
