About the Item
A delightful and unusual antique German porcelain figural Scotsman character jug attributed to Schafer & Vater dating from around 1900. This charming and quality jug stands on a flat round unglazed base with a barrel shaped body formed in relied as a Scotsman holding a stick in one hand and dressed in a tartan kilt with a jacket and waistcoat in white and cream colors with a matching tartan sash held by a large round jewel pin/ the man has a well detailed face and his head forms the narrow neck and wears a wide flat Tammy Shanta hat which forms the pouring spout. A ribbon extending from the rim of the hat forms the handle at the back. The jug is finely hand painted in excellent detail however the jug is typically not marked.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good used condition with wear associated with age and use with a small bit of blue glaze missing to the top edge mentioned for accuracy.
