About the Item

Extremely rare Art Nouveau Figurine Group by Meissen: Monumental figure of Flora, taking a step forward in dance and holding large, heavy flower garlands of yellow roses, which are wrapped with a blue bow, in hands. The hair of the female nude is artfully tied into a striped cloth, which is held together by blue ribbons and is decorated with leaf branches over the ears. On her left shoulder she carries a naked boy who is holding in an upside down position a golden wreath of flowers and is looking down at the second putto with golden, shoulder-length hair, while he is pulling himself up on a garland that is lying on the right thigh of Flora. The group is based on a white, stepped and rounded rectangular base with gold decoration. The figure is extremely rare and can hardly be found on the market. It is in immaculate, unrestored condition. Modeller: EMMRICH OEHLER (1881 - 1982) German sculptor; Studied at the State University for Porcelain Manufacture in Dresden, from 1909 he worked in the master workshop of Johannes Schilling and Georg Wrba at the Art Academy in Dresden and wasemployed at the state porcelain manufacture until 1913. He was among others, a member of the German Werkbund. He made a name for himself above all with his models of figures and animals and thus had a decisive influence on the Art Nouveau period in Meissen.
