Meissen most remarkable figurine: Female ballet dancer Estrella from the series 'Russian ballet carnival' or model A 1003 Size: height 11.22 inches (= 28.5 cm) depth 7.87 inches (= 20.0 cm) width 5.70 inches (= 14.5 cm) Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue meissen sword mark model number A 1003 (= vintage model number D 285) former's number hard to read / remainders of painter's number existing First quality Dating: second half of 20th century Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Art Nouveau Modelled by: Paul Scheurich (1883-1945) Paul Scheurich was painter, sculptor, graphic artist, drawer and stage designer or he studied at academy of Arts in Berlin or Germany during the years 1900-02. He worked for Meissen manufactory from 1913 to 1936. Undoubtedly he belonged to one of most important porcelain designers of first half of 20th century. His customers were for example porcelain manufactories such as KPM, Nymphenburg, Meissen. Detailed description: Female ballet dancer walking on her tiptoes: It is ESTRELLA, she seems to be embarrassed about the impetuous court of her fancy man (= called EUSEBIUS), having her left arm raised in order to fend her lover apparently or the lady dancer is clad in a finest ballet-dress. The figurine is attached to flat base. History of design: In 1912, Scheurich modelled five characters from the Russian ballet carnival that had impressed him very much during performance in Berlin by Petersburg ballet dancers in 1910.
