About the Item

Very elaborate and lovingly designed group of animal figures: European roller leaning forward, also known as almond crow in German-speaking countries, sitting on a tree trunk with open beak, below the bird a large beetle and caterpillars, its prime prey, and a brooding blackbird on a smaller leafy branch. Designer: JOHANN JOACHIM KÄNDLER (1706 - 1775) chief sculptor at the Meissen manufactory from 1742 to 1775. He is the most famous modeller Meissen manufactory ever had and created famous series such as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers (with Reinicke and Meyer) , Gallant Figurines, etc. Model 953 X was created in the year 1735.
